How to achieve Domain Expertise for Fintech & Payments Professionals.

I am in the process of completing a Masters in Data Analytics I started during the Covid lockdown, while the world was temporarily closed.

One of the projects required designing an XML Model for a Health Insurance business. This would require using technologies like XML, Xpath, XSD and XSLT which I could do easily, considering the intensive training I received at DSTI.

But the question had given several pointers to a good design, including the need for a reimbursement feature. I was familiar with the Nigerian Health insurance system having served as a Portfolio Product manager for a HealthTech product. We didn’t have reimbursements as a major feature;
Insurance covered things which they paid for, and the rest , the client paid for them. So I spent a lot of time googling and researching, trying to understand the need for this as a major feature in Health insurance project.

After some days I stumbled on info that gave me clarity. Thereafter, the design was easy and intuitive. I knew the why in addition to the how.

Why is this story important.

Like…Why the long tale Iphie?

Lol.. this is why.

A lot of Fintech companies have hired experienced Project Managers, Product Managers, Data Analysts, Finance Experts and Engineers. They have the recognised certifications : PMP,AIPMM, Power BI, Tableau, ICAN, AWS etc.. and have also worked on various platforms and stacks.

However just like me, these wonderful professionals do not understand the domain(in their scenario : The Fintech domain) , especially in a way that it reflects on their ability to work without supervision. It tells on the:

-Quality of the Fintech product features and user experience knowing that there are other ‘users’ apart from the customer.

-Quality of the data dashboards, analysis and models built to relay insights.

-The ability to design financial models that capture the best value from the market.

-The ability to develop apps that align with the regulations and cater to the fee splits for stakeholders. I could go on , but you get the point because you’ve probably experienced these concerns at a point in your business operations.

So what is the solution.
How do we free up Business leaders to focus on what they should be doing; Business expansion just like they promised the investors. It is definitely by upskilling right? and there are options. Employees could learn from the CEO ,but they hardly have the time. They could also learn from conversations and articles on social media. Again, like I experienced this might take a while, will definitely be fragmented and not as detailed as they want.

And where would you really find information about Regulations, Stack, technology, History, Payment Stakeholders, Details of a transaction in one place, broken down so that a non-techy understands it? This is why the ABC of Payments course was designed. To present to experienced, Tech/non-tech or entry-level staff of Fintech companies a detailed, bespoke training that will introduce the world of Fintech to them as they require it.

What would you expect them to learn?

When will this course hold:
We have one scheduled for the 15th and 16th of May 2021.
It’s online and holds for 3 hours each day. At the end of the course, participants would get a workbook with information they can refer to after the course. The workbook will also contain the notes they have taken during the course.

If you are an employer/Fintech Co-founder and you need more info, please send an email to info@thepaymentlogue.com. If you work for a Fintech company and you’ll like to be in-charge of your learning journey(as it should be), the course is reasonably priced. There is an early bird discount you can take advantage of. It lasts till the 9th of May.

Next move is yours. Thanks for reading.
